Farmers planting hemp are on the side of profit as hemp is becoming increasingly popular among health conscious folks. They provide a nutritional boost in anyone’s diet no matter how you choose to eat them – sprouted, raw, made into tea, ground into a meal, made into hemp milk, used in baking etc.
Sprouted hemp seed comprises of a nutritious form of hemp nuts that contain high amounts of protein and essential micronutrients. They sprouts are taste like sunflower seeds and can easily be planted at home. They are normally used as sandwich fillings and sprinkled on salads.
Sprouted hemp products made in America don’t make you high because they don’t contain that addictive and psychoactive substance that is associated with marijuana despite bearing some similarities with the plant.
The fresh sprouts can be preserved in plastic bags and refrigerated. It is equally important to consume the hemp seeds within a couple of days of sprouting because wilted sprouts are considered harmful to the body. The sprouts can be grown by placing the hemp seeds in jars or in trays.
Growing Hemp Sprouts
First of all, clean the seeds of all debris including damaged or broken seeds and then placed in jars filled with water.
They should be washed and drained severally prior to transferring them to trays and keeping them for 12 to 24 hours away from direct sunlight.
The sprouts start to grow in about three days when they’ve been placed away from direct sunlight with the soil being moistened at regular intervals.
As soon as they turn green, which usually takes a bit more than a week, they’re ready to be harvested.
You can also carry out the process within a jar with the seeds being rinsed and drained completely and then stored in dark and warm place.
Hemp sprouts are rich sources of vegetable protein and also contain omega-3 fatty acids that improve health generally as well as control inflammation. Some of the nutritious and most popular hemp sprout foods are hemp milk and Italian Toss.
From all indications, hemp sprouts are a great addition to your diet. As hemp is now legal in America, farmers should take advantage of this opportunity to grow hemp sprouts. With farmers planting hemp, factories will begin to sing as they now have new products made in America for the growing populace of hemp advocates in the country. So, let’s sprout!
