Hemp Bacteria Fighting Fabrics

Everything You Need to Know About Bacteria Fighting Fabrics

The skin used to be the body’s primary defense against infectious agents – not anymore. These days you can use hemp fabrics to protect yourself too. Bacteria are found literally everywhere. It’s on your skin and even on the clothes you wear. So it helps to have additional defenses like bacteria fabrics with protective properties. Hemp and silver are two naturally-occurring materials which are used to make bacteria fighting fabrics
But what exactly are they and how do they work? And how can you benefit from them?

Bacteria fighting fabrics: Silver and hemp

These fabrics actively prevent the proliferation of bacteria by actually killing them. Silver is no stranger to the cause and has been integrated into such things as keyboards, washing machines, and water filtration systems to fend off bacteria. Early this year, researchers from the RMIT University in Australia, and scientists from CSIRO, worked together to create an incredible antibacterial fabric. Silver bacteria fabrics are capable of killing E. coli and other strains of bacteria within 10 minutes after exposure to the silver-TCNQ woven into the cloth. But silver isn’t alone in its antibacterial properties.

Hemp also has a reputation for its antibacterial properties. But it wasn’t until recently that hemp fabrics were developed to fight off bacteria. A company based in Colorado uses hemp to prevent the spread of Staphylococcus infections in hospitals by replacing cotton and polyester cloths with fibers. Bacteria are known to survive for up to months on traditional types of fabric, unlike hemp fabrics.

In one study performed by MRSA, a blend fabric made of 60% hemp and 40% polyester was intentional infected with staph. It was later found to be 98.5% bacteria free after shortly after.

The benefits of bacteria fighting fabrics

1. Additional defense against infection. The skin is actually part of the body’s defenses against infection – otherwise known as the immune system. And it’s the first level of protection you have, keeping infectious agents like bacteria from getting into your body. Bacteria are a major cause of many infectious diseases including fatal ones like tuberculosis. Bacteria fabrics add a layer of protection over your skin, further protecting you.

2. Prevent infection. Since bacteria fighting fabrics add a layer of protection, they also prevent you from getting infected. You are less likely developing infections caused by bacteria, and that’s a good thing!

3. Prevent spread and transmission. In cases where you are infected, or when you come in contact with bacteria, you can prevent the spread and transmission of infectious diseases to non-infected individuals, which is a bad thing!

4. Save money on healthcare. Although not an obvious benefit, silver and hemp fabrics can save you money. Since you will less likely get sick from bacteria thanks to their antimicrobial effects, you no longer have to spend as much on consultations and medications every year.

5. Lead a healthier life. Fabrics that kill bacteria will lead to a healthier life, not just of yourself but the people around you. And, that just makes sense.  www.hempthred.com
